Metro Valley Light Rail System is Ready to ROCK AND ROLL!

I had the opportunity today to observe the Arizona Maricopa County Valley Metro Light Rail system as they practiced the routes.  The Metro ROCKS! I can't wait to board it and ride it to Mesa.  I'll just park my car, get a good book out and hold on enjoying the ride!

The grand opening is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, December 27th and Sunday, December 28th. Check out the grand opening festivities, Valley Metro Light Rail route, hours of operations and road closures by clicking here.

After years of negotiations, special bonds & additional taxes the Valley Metro Light Rail is ready to celebrate its grand opening festivities.  The Valley Metro Light Rail begins in downtown Phoenix, meanders through Tempe and ends in Mesa. According to Valley Metro, the travel time for the entire 20 mile route Light Rail will take 60 minutes, from Christown Mall to ASU it is projected to take 45 minutes or it will take 15 minutes from downtown Phoenix to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. The present Valley Metro Light Rail route can be obtained at the Valley Metro website.

The grand opening celebrations will occur on December 27 from 10am to 6pm and December 28 from 10am to 5pm. The Valley Metro Light Rail will be free of cost to riders until January 1, 2009.  During the next two days of celebrations, there will be music, giveaways, activities along the route. Be sure to check out the road closures before venturing into the area at this website: http://www.valleymetro.org/metro_light_rail/grand_opening/

As of January 1st, the hours of operations will be from 4am to 12 midnight. During the weekdays the Valley Metro Light Rail will arrive every 10 minutes from 6am to 7pm with other hours every 20 minutes. During the weekends the hours of operation is from 5am to 12 midnight with the Valley Metro Light Rail trains arriving every 15 minutes between 6am and 7pm and all other hours 20 minutes.

 There are eight park and ride locations.
1. Montebello & 19th Avenue 
2. 19th Avenue & Camelback Avenue 
3. Central Avenue & Camelback Avenue 
4. 38th Street & Washington Avenue 
5. Dorsey Lane & Apache Blvd
6. McClintock Drive & Apache Blvd 
7. 101 Freeway& Apache Blvd
8. Sycamore & Main Street
